Lemon joins Brownsville Faculty
Lemon's research examines and addresses social determinants of Latinx mental health with a focus on suicide prevention
Emily Lemon, MPH, PhD focused her doctoral research on mental health, community connectedness and the impact of immigration policies on Latinx youth, specifically in the Southeastern United States. Coming to Texas from Emory University and her home in Atlanta, Georgia, she is aware of the differences between the two regions, but also embracing the familiar culture and environment of the Rio Grande Valley.

Cuccaro, Reininger, & Savas received nearly $4 million from The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT)
The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) awarded nearly $4 million to researchers with UTHealth Houston School of Public Health to aid in cancer prevention research. These awards are designed to support research efforts across the state to identify, detect, and prevent cancer.

Nearly $1 Million Grant Awarded to Identify and Prevent the Spread of Tuberculosis
Restrepo recipient of RO1 Award of $956,440 to aid in identifying drug resistant tuberculosis
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded nearly $1 million in grant funding to aid in developing a new method to identify drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB). This project, "Improving rapid phenotypic drug susceptibility testing for drug resistant tuberculosis in high-burden areas," aims to prevent the further spread of these life-threatening strains to the public.
